I had my Lombard 400 G3 (OS 10.2.8, 6 gig hard drive) upgraded by Daystar a few years ago. At that time, besides doing the cpu upgrade to the 433 G4, I asked then to add 256 megs of ram.
Previous to the upgrade I was experiencing serious temperature related lockup of the cpu. In fact anytime I "stressed" the cpu (e.g., playing graphic intensive games), the old G3 would freeze and I would have to disconnect power and battery and reboot.
The shipping and installation was timely and thorough. Daystar completely checked the system as part of the upgrade. They could have very easily put the new 256 meg SODIMM in the "easy" user accessible slot but they took the time to install it in the lower "hard" slot leaving my old 64 meg ram in the 'easy' slot for future upgrade. Seems like a small thing, but knowing I would eventually max out the memory to 512 meg, this made it super simple for me to do later.
Just recently, I decided that I wanted to upgrade my OS from Jaguar to Panther. Since my 6 gig hard drive was nearly full, I also decided to upgrade that to 40 gig (Seagate), and also finally max the ram to 512 meg. Since I had to reinstall software on the new hard drive, I had some questions for Gary at Daystar about reloading the Mach speed control. Even two years post-cpu-upgrade my emailed questions were answered quickly and thoroughly. Gary even gave me the username/password for downloads so I could install the latest version of the Mach speed software.
Now, after all these changes, I am super-pleased with the performance improvements in my Lombard. I noted a significant improvement in the speed of gameplay and DVD movies that I play are free of jitter, even when displayed fullscreen. The laptop is significantly cooler running and I have not had a freeze/lockup since the upgrade.
BRAVO to Gary and Daystar for their excellent product, service and long-term support. Oh yeah, and no more sleep related issues with Panther installed!
