| I have a wonderful pismo that I had Daystar upgrade to 550 cpu. It has worked great for several years. I am suddenly seeing the pismo randomly go off and then sometimes it simply reboots by itself and sometimes I have difficulty restarting. Does this sound like a logic board problem. It has a fairly new pram battery, a year old. I hate to let it die completely, I still use it everyday for email and web surfing and take it when I travel, any ideas??

I have a couple questions. Do you have a good main battery?
My first thought is that you don't, and that the AC board is bad, causing shorts which could force a restart and/or shut down.
If you have a good battery, then it could be the PMU. I would first try resetting the PMU, by unplugging the main battery, then the A/C. Hit the reset button in the back and wait ten second, then plug everything back.
It the problem goes away, then you had a corrupt PMU. If not, the look at the AC Board, then the PMU.
To test the AC board, just remove the main battery, and run from the AC connector. Wiggle it some, and see if the problem becomes repeatable. If not, then try running from the battery alone. A bad cell in the battery could also cause issues, and corrupt the PMU as well.

| Thanks I will try that. I replaced the main battery about 2 years ago, the original battery lasted that long. This one holds a charge for at least 3-4 hours. Thanks again.

| O.K. I reset the PMU and it started right up again. I will run it for a day or two and see what happens. If that didn't work I will try the a/c cord. Thank you so much. This has just been the best computer. The screen is still perfect and it runs like a top. I had planned to buy a new macbook and give this one to my grandson, so I hope I can solve this. Thanks again.

| Great! Let me know. Also on the PRAM batteries, although you have a new one. It really needs to be an Apple Branded new. Many companies sell uses and "their own brand"... like OWC. Don't use them... stick to the Apple ones, and new. They can create havoc in a system.
