I'm using the xlr8 with Intel Mac Pro. I am runing the audio through the line in native to the Mac. After the capture of both video and audio for an older Hi 8 Vidoe cam, i seem to have issues with the video 'skipping' or hiccuping from time to time and the audio then gets out of sync. I tried using the uncompressed format first and then the Photo-JPG, happens in both settings. Any advice for fixing this?
Thanks.Last edited on Fri Mar 16th, 2007 08:51 pm by mattyo

hey there Mattyo,
I have found when transfering video from "non-digital-camcorders" that video and audio have to buffer. When you dont have enough RAM and/or availible proccessor to use the transfering can become out of sync and/or slow and with hickups. A good solution to help fix your problems would be:
1: Try freeing up your CPU usage by closing as many programs that you do not need to have running.
2: If you are still having problems, check the amount of RAM you have, 512mb would be a minimum for your video transfers and I would recommend having atleast 1024mb RAM for smoothness.
3: if all of this doesn't fix your "syncing-up" problem, then try cutting off you camera, and restarting it. Then start your playing on your camera before you starting syncing it over to your mac.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Matt,
There are a number of issues in Apple's QuickTime, that the XLR8 Capture has to handle to maintain sync. It should be right on though.
There is a bug in Apple QuickTime using the 48 hz setting in the audio/sound settings. Try using the 44 setting in the sound settings.

Hey Gary,
After having this very same sync issue, I did a LOT of searching through forums and tech support links...here is what I found out.
Apple's recent OS X update (10.4.9) threw their own Final Cut Pro/Express software out of sync! After I did this operating system upgrade, I started having problems with the Proview USB (before that it was working GREAT!)
I did a full Mac Mini restore and now everything is working great again...
Just thought that you might like to have a little more information about this issue...
Regards,
Brad

Hi Brad,
Sorry, I did not realize that this was on a Mac Mini....
The "ProView USB Toggle Audio.app" in the ProView USB Tools folder can help with this issue as well.

Thanks Gary,
Before I bought the Proview I told you that I was using a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio 733MHz, but the power supply died on me...that's why I'm using the Mini.
The pausing during the capture didn't seem to happen on a USB MS-DOS formatted drive...only when I was capturing to the same formatted drive but using Firewire instead. Does the software patch you referred to solve this type of issue?
Thanks,
Brad

Well, I have a bit more info on the Audio sync issue(s).
If you are running Parallels Desktop, or have ever installed it... the ConnectUSB.kext file (in System/Library/Extensions) is creating issues. Another issue has crept up with Spotlight. it keeps trying to talk/index/check rather than wait. This can create a video frame freeze.
Disabling Spotlight is easy.
Open System Preferences / Spotlight.
Select the Privacy Tab.
Add the Root of any/all connected Drives.
Close System Preferences.
The result is immediate. If you have any other applications/utilities that are to trying to check/talk to the system and/or drive in background (such as Stuffit's background actions or Acrobat folder watching prefs, I suggest disabling them as well.

Gary,
I can't find the "ProView USB Toggle Audio.app" on either of my CDs. What folder should it be in, or can you e-mail it to me? I really can't use the Proview yet...
Thanks,
Brad

Actually, I mis-spoke, The USB Toggle App doesn't have anything to do with your issue.

I am having the same problem using a new MacPro Book 17, 2.88 processor and 2 gb ram. Besides the hiccups, the video actually freezes and the audio keeps playing gettig out of sync on playback. Also, the Xtraview screen is choppy during the recording process. Is this a symptom of something I have set up wrong?
Thank you

In 10.4.9, Spotlight tries to index the video during capture (stupid). The latest updates posted on the link below fix it.
